帕尔曼＋阿格丽希，多么梦幻的组合！他们分别在各自的专业演奏领域上屹立超过半个世纪，两位超级艺术家竟然是第一次有机会一起在录音室合作。等等：那张1998年7月30在美国萨拉托加表演艺术中心，曲目是贝多芬与法朗克奏鸣曲的专辑呢？那张是音乐会现场录音。於是，帕尔曼与阿格丽希就在这张2016年的新录音中，一举两得完成了录音室与现场的纪录，再无遗珠之憾了。
对於有机会与钢琴女王阿格丽希再度携手合作录制专辑，帕尔曼难掩兴奋的表示：跟玛塔合作是独一无二的体验，璀璨多彩的音色，辨识度非常高：除了她─没有人可以弹成这样。阿格丽希对这位当代小提琴天王的讚誉也是毫不保留：跟伊萨克一同演出，我觉得特别兴奋，很高兴，太棒了！这样的合作关係难能可贵，我非常乐在其中，过程中就好像彼此在对话一样，总是能够在某些时刻，激发出灵感。互动之间，很自然地就产生大量的火花。
阿格丽希与帕尔曼都在这两年庆祝人生的里程碑。阿格丽希在今（2016）年6月欢度75岁生日，华纳古典推出阿格丽希1965年传奇萧邦录音 180g LP黑胶唱片，造成轰动。这张当年在阿格丽希强势拿下第七届国际萧邦钢琴大赛不久之后留下的录音，最能够表现钢琴女王的霸气。近期出版的英国「留声机」杂誌肯定阿格丽希「毫无疑问，名列当今最伟大的钢琴家。」2015年8月，帕尔曼庆祝他的70岁生日，华纳古典集结了帕尔曼1971-2002的经典录音，这套「帕尔曼华纳录音大全集」为大师的小提琴艺术留下最具有说服力的见证。「他的才华不可限量。他的小提琴造诣，无人能及！」小提琴家史坦曾经如此讚嘆帕尔曼的演奏艺术。
录音室里可以慢工出细活，与现场的电光火石相比，艺术家自然有另一套表现的哲学。帕尔曼与阿格丽希的第一张共同录音室录音的专辑自然不能等閒视之，排出的曲目非常具有啟发性，兼具深度与艺术价值：巴哈的第四号为小提琴与钢琴的奏鸣曲BWV1017、布拉姆斯的詼谐曲（遗作），以及舒曼的A小调第一号小提琴奏鸣曲（作品105，此曲为1998年的现场录音）、幻想小品集（作品73）。

Here is a meeting of great musical minds. Itzhak Perlman and Martha Argerich came together for a single recital in Saratoga in 1998, two thirds of which was released – their only previous disc together. Now we have the other sonata from that concert, Schumann’s No 1 in A minor. From the start, Argerich’s piano playing is supremely alive, moving under Perlman’s muscular melody in ebbing, tugging waves. Perlman spins out the second movement into a single, seamless phrase; his tone is a bit crunchy in the agitated finale, but the exhilaration of a live performance is all there. Even more intriguing are the new studio versions of Schumann’s Drei Fantasiestücke, Brahms’s FAE Scherzo and Bach’s C minor Sonata. Perlman’s tone may be fractionally less sweet than it was nearly two decades ago, but the sense of line in his playing remains supreme, and Argerich’s Bach accompaniments are like a sprung dancefloor underneath him.

The performances heard on this recording by the superstar duo of violinist Itzhak Perlman and pianist Martha Argerich do not exactly form a discrete group: the first work, Schumann's Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105, was recorded live in 1998, while the rest consists of 2016 studio recordings. The 1998 performance, however, was part of a concert in Saratoga Springs, New York, that provided the stimulus for the joint recording. The Schumann sonata performance was not released at that time, and the rest of the program expands on the music it presents. It's nice to have the Schumann, which has a good deal of tension and energy. As for the rest, it's hard to point to a clear decline in the skills of either of the septuagenarian performers. The Drei Fantasiestücke for violin and piano. Op. 73, do not lie as easily under Perlman's fingers as the final two works, but these give a strong taste of what has made him one of the top players of the past half-century. The Bach Violin Sonata No. 4 in C minor, BWV 1017, makes a good balance for the contrapuntal Schumann sonata and allows Perlman to spin out the long, warm lines he does so well. Sample the opening "Siciliano" slow movement, gentle and perfectly controlled, for confirmation that you're getting a bona fide entry in the catalog of great Perlman performances. The rather rare Brahms movement of the collaborative F-A-E Sonata (the other three movements are by other composers) is also quite effective. Martha Argerich's skills as an accompanist are nonpareil, and she is extremely sensitive to what Perlman is doing throughout. A fine late-career release for both artists, this will be a must-have for fans of either one.
